The most fundamental thing that is lacking and badly needed in most organisations is the craft and skill of leadership.
Do not mistake management with leadership, I am talking about the business of inspiration, care, selflessness and empowerment. These things are not taught in business schools and delivered in corporate training programmes.
Most managers, senior managers and executives are not leaders. They are wonderful managers, but not leaders.
I know a manager who attended tons of leadership trainings, but she never excercised leadership in action. Either she learned about management which is certainly the case, or she does not have the courage to go first, inspire her team and empower and protect them.
