The problem with promoting managers is that the managers’ understanding of leadership is so limited or inspired by old management philosophies or outdated concepts that go back to the industrial age. Few leaders are able to shout their purpose and vision loudly to inspire people around them. Most managers who are promoted to leadership positions are corporately manufactured to stay managers. They lack the right leadership skills which are centred on purpose and values. Few managers can articulate what they stand for in life or exist to accomplish outside their organisational boundaries.
The question is how they will inspire people. Their inspiration is doomed to fail.
What do you stand for in life as a leader?
What is your purpose?
It is time to change the narrative of promotions in companies. It is time to promote leaders to inspire, not managers who perspire.
